Ready to relaunch

When we move to Crooked House* next week, I'll have a room of my own. There'll be a desk in one corner and bookshelf in another and a pile of dumbells in another. There'll be a proper place for my Swiss ball so it won't fall on top of Dr G's head. I've got a giant 2010 planner with 365 hopeful blank squares, ready to whack up on the wall.

I'm so bloody burned out, comrades! I'll drag my arse through the next 19 days until the Christmas break begins, then I'll snooze and read and write and drink port and watch Roman Holiday.

I'm ready to get my shit together. You know when you know you need to get your shit together but you don't have the oomph to actually do it? I'm just about ready for the doing now. Yeah!

* so named because the house has so many crooked cupboards, walls, tiles, etc from ye olde slapdash renovations. That will all change under my watch, dammit!

  1. Hope the move goes well!!! I’m sure you guys will make the Crooked House all your own and hopefully fix up ye olde (hee hee) renos with stuff more straight and more your style. (why is putting an “e” on old so funny???)

  3. Awesome news! 🙂 A room of your own sounds fab — I know I find it hard to write when I’ve gotta share my space.

    I also totally know that feeling of being/getting ready for action. It’s the deep breath before the plunge. Make sure you give yourself time for it, you don’t have to jump too soon.

    It sounds like you are ready for a break and the nice thing…most of the tough work sounds like its pretty much done so you’ll just be able to relax & enjoy! YAy!!

  7. I am so ready for the holiday time off. I feel you on the burnout. Two more weeks, two more weeks… (at least for me). I haven’t had two weeks off in a row for many years. I am so flipping excited.

    I finally caught up with your most recent blog, after having spent a good part of a year reading from the very beginning.

    As I read the December 4th entry, I thought it would be interesting to re-read your very first blog entry.

    I must say, I wanted to reach through the words, lead the girl you were out by the hand, and say to her, “See? Look at what you’ve accomplished! You DID finally do it this time. You’ve found self-worth and purpose and courage. You’re adventurous and spunky and you found love. Don’t dispair! It’s going to happen for you!” You seemed to want this time to be different so badly, but were terrified that you would “fail” again.

    You’ve become the woman your former self only dared to dream about!

    Thank goodness for Christmas breaks hey – sounds like you can use it.

    Congratulations on the big house buy – I am always so proud of Aussies that are able to buy in the UK – such an amazing achievment.

    I really hope that 2010 it all falls together for you (and me) and is much less stressful.

    I want to say thank you for being there for me for this entire year – I have felt like I have climbed a mountain and yet am only at base camp and my journey has just began – who knows what the new year will bring.

    However, when all elese was a shambles, I could take comfort in your humour and humanity – and loved it.

  11. I’m with you on the burnt out feeling. I need to get a planner too. So many ideas, thoughts are running at the moment, its insane.

  12. I don’t know if this is the place to share a recipe or not, but here you are:

    I tried this for the first time today. It’s amazing and dead simple.

    Onion (green and regular)
    Squash/pumpkin
    Garlic
    Shrimp
    Fresh hot pepper
    Sautee onions and garlic until they’re cooked but not brown.
    Add pumpkin/squash, and some water, to simmer covered. Break up chunks if necessary.
    Simmer down until just before desired consistency, then add shrimp.
    Simmer again until shrimp is cooked.

    Serve with roti, or if you’re like me and can’t get it easily, I just used a whole wheat pita, which I ripped apart and scooped it up with.

    That’s it!

    I will add a bit more shrimp next time, and more hot pepper. If I make it with butternut squash again I may add a teeny bit more salt, just to balance the sweet. Pumpkin doesn’t seem to need it. I bet it would be good with a couple different kinds of hot peppers too.

    It’s really yummy AND really healthy!! YAY PUMPKIN ROTI!!

  16. Oh god yes. I’m in the act of getting my shit together now. Part of me just wants to let it all drop and run away, maybe hide under the covers until everyone gives up… but the other part of me knows how much I need to get done. It’s at the point where I have to-do lists for my to-do lists….

    But I tell ya, I can’t wait until I’m in the groove, rather than just holding on for dear life.
