Soon To Be Named Podcast - Episode #2
October 09, 2009
The DG/MizFit podcast is back! We're somewhat grappling with the technology but making up for it with wild enthusiasm.
I hope that one day soon I'll be able to breath out of my nose again, but it was not to be during this episode. After three whole weeks of not needing to carry 27 tissues on my person at all times, the sneezefest returned on the day of recording. BAH! I think we managed to remove all the HONK HONK HONK bits but it's a little dodgy. We're still learning.
In today's episode: we finally announce the podcast name, bring you news and answered questions, and talk all things running with a special guest expert.
Listen right here:
Or download the whole epsiode to your computer (MP3 format).
We're also on iTunes! Once you have The Name, search for us on the iTunes store and if you fancy, you can subscribe and have us automatically haunt your computer.
UPDATE: or just click here to go straight to iTunes... let's make this easier :)
Bon weekend, comrades.
I'm Shauna Reid, Scotland-dwelling Aussie

Like I told mizFit - I'm going to listen later when I have more time. I'm sure the two of you had a lot of fun!

I can't get your podcast to work. :( Is it on any other online medium that I don't have to download?

How are you trying to listen to it Margee? What sort of errors are you getting?
If you're trying the wee player thing here it might take awhile to load before it starts to play...

Looks like podbean.com where the podcast is hosted is experiencing high traffic right now (GRRRRRRR)... might be causing the difficulties, arrrghhh

I have to say I was disappointed to learn that all my treadmill progress was for naught (and yes, I know it's not nothing but sheesh). I keep saying that I need to run outside but the few times that I've tried it (on a nice, flat cushioned track for heaven's sake), I found it to be sooooo much harder that I haven't done it since. So I wonder where to start and how to guage my progress, what's everyone using to figure distance and speed? And what's up with Mizfit deciding to just up and run 10 miles one day, that woman is super fantastic?!! Anyway, glad the podcast is up on itunes, came out great!

Thanks for listening, pubsgal and Rebecca!
Rebecca, personally I'd say it depends on what your goals are. If you just want to do runs on a treadmill and not do any road races, I'd say just run on the treadmill! Julia might kill me to hear that :P
I used MapMyRun.com to figure out distances then a stopwatch. Or a local running track at a school. Hope that helps... or if I've misunderstood lemme know and I can pass it on to Julia! :)

Hi to Rebecca and Shauna!
Shauna's advice is correct, if you're fine on the treadmill and your goal is "fitness", you can just keep doing that. If instead you want to participate in a 5km or 10km run (or any other distance) you have to be running on the road. You mentioned trying it a few times but that it was too difficult. Try again! (and again, and again). Of course it's going to be hard the first few times, but you won't improve if you don't keep practicing. It should only take you a few weeks to get used to pavement rather than the treadmill belt.
Good luck and don't give up!
Julia
