Hallo Deutschland!

Germany The German translation of Dietgirl – Die unglaublichen Abenteuer von Diรคt-Girl – was unleashed on January 1st.

It looks very swanky with a bright blue spine and back Blue and these flappy sort of things Flap  inside the covers where you could store a chocolate wrapper or your electricity bill.

The very best part is that the translation of Mothership is MUTTERSCHIFF! I will be addressing her thus from now on.

So if there's any Germans in the house – hello to you!

In other news, I've fixed the broken Dietgirl Reader Gallery so if you would like your name and blog link up in lights, feel free to join in.

And now here is a little appeal: If anyone out there in America or Germany or Guatemala or whatnot happens to spy the book in a shop and has a camera handy…. would you mind taking a wee photo? I know I'm a saddo, but it's bloody frustrating being here in the ol UK and not being able to stalk the shelves and see if it actually exists. You would be my hero for life!

  1. DG.. because I’m a nerd, this holiday found in me in two different barnes & nobles… and in both we moved some of your books from the shelf to the “fitness and health” focus table at the front for all the new year folks. I’m happy to report that in both BN your books were on the shelf facing out… the front! No spines shelving for you! I also met friends at two different Borders but neither had the book in stock. Bummer. My niece (13) is also on the mission. She and a friend are headed to a BN today for coffee and a “chill” and she will also move your book from shelf to table. Sarah

p.s. I will most definitely commence photographing.. next time I’m back at a bookstore. but, since work starts tomorrow…. sigh….

  2. Hello from Orange County California
Had not heard of you until I read the book review in my People magazine last week….they gave your book four stars
I bought it at my Barnes and Noble in Huntington Beach, finished it yesterday
    I enjoyed it!!

  3. Oh I like the MUTTERSCHIFF too!
How’s it feel to have gone global!?!
you’re going to be the whole world’s, superhero!
watch out spiderman, diet girl is on your trail!

  4. I ordered your book online so I haven’t had a chance to look for it in the bookstores. I already finished reading it – I laughed, cried, said “oh, that’s me too,” and smiled. Beautifully well done, Shauna. I’ll take a look at bookstores, try to remember to snap a pic, and also steal the idea of moving your book to the front tables!

  5. Finally got my copy from Amazon.com on 12/31 and finished it yesterday. It was brilliant!!! I’ve read through the blog quite a lot but was a latecomer, so I really enjoyed reading your story in book form. Great way to start the new year!!! (And I sure hope there will be more books–I love your writing!)

  6. Herzlichen Glรผckwunsch! ๐Ÿ™‚ I can’t promise I’ll remember to take my camera with me some time next week, but I’ll try. (Not all of us are ruthlessly efficient, I’m afraid.)

  7. I just bought your book here in America. Would have taken a pic if I’d seen this first! Anyway, they were carrying it at a Barnes and Noble here in the suburbs of Boston. I just about tore through the first two years in one night!

  8. I ordered my book online from B&N and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. In the meantime I have been catching up on your archives. You are amazing. I am so grateful you documented all your ups and downs. I am sure you did it for yourself but the imagine the number of people you have inspired and encouraged, myself included.

I recently finished the 5 year summary thingy you wrote in early 2006. It is so encouraging to see that someone succeeded in a non-linear fashion. My journey has been decidedly non-linear and being able to read about you has helped me to feel all is not lost.

Thank you so much. DietGirl, your adventures are amazing…and so are you!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I work in a B&N in the midwest, and your book is front and center on a Fitness and Health table in the front of the store since it’s release date here(from where I plucked my copy for purchase!), as well as a face-out in the bio section. Can’t wait to dig into it!

  10. Just today I drove to a Barnes & Noble
(in New Jersey)to purchase your book. I checked with customer service and was informed that Amazing Adventures of Dietgirl is on backorder. I ordered a copy and hope it comes in real soon!

  11. Hi, I tried to buy book on Amazon(.co.uk) but was out of stock. Yesterday I went into Waterstones to order it, as I thought I’d avoid getting it on another website and paying P&P (because when Amazon didn’t have it I ended up buying 4 other books – naughty me). But Waterstones (UK) said it is even out of stock in their wholesalers, so on their computer it said it was going into reprint.
Good on you Shauna that it’s flown off the shelves like that.
I think I will go online and order it now as I am getting jealous of all the people who’ve read it and have such good things to say.
RE: going back to work, I start on 5th Jan too. Last day was 23rd December, so the thought of being back after such a long break is like, oooooh… It is the getting up early and commuting that’ll be hard, plus I start the typical January detox tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Thanks so much you book-reading folks, it really really means a lot…
I’m sitting here in my daggy old dressing gown all maudlin at the thought of going back to bloody work tomorrow so it’s great reading your comments ๐Ÿ™‚
Liska – sorry you’ve had so much trouble tracking the UK book down… arrgh. Good luck with your detox ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Update to my last comment, nearly an hour ago…
Diet Girl, thank you for your emails of Friday and today. I just thought what the heck and bought it on diet and fitness resources .co.uk, as you suggested Friday.
I got a confirmation, so they do have stock, yyiiipppeee
You suggested them Friday, but I was resisting the P&P, but what the heck, it’s worth it, especially when Waterstones etc… are out of stock ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Hi There,

You would be pleased to hear that I bought your book in Switzerland! It is the german version and I really loved it.
Since reading the book, I also visit your website. Keep on writing!

    Love from Paradise Girl

  15. Hi Dietgirl,

I love the supergirl graphic that would make me buy a book as I am a hopeless superfreak.

I will be heading out to purchase the book. I’m sure I will love it. Your very funny.

    Hoping for massive sales…

  16. I was thinking about getting the US version to supplement my UK version, but the thought of reading it in German sounds like a lot of fun. I haven’t tried to read German for a long time, but have been thinking about brushing up on the old skillz, and now I can’t think of a more fun way to do it! Cool.

  17. I was so excited to see your book front and center on the New Release table at Barnes & Noble. I can’t wait to read it. I’m jealous that the U.S. version doesn’t have the great picture of Super Hero Diet Girl, we get the ol’ measuring tape, but as we know it is the inside that counts.

Hope sales are big. I’ll be finding and moving it front and center in all the bookstores here in Boston.

    Happy New Year!

  18. Hey diet girl! I’m in America and went to my local bookstore the other day when I heard your book came out. (I found out it about it and you from sparkpeople.com… great site!) There was your book! (Sadly I didn’t get a picture.)I bought it and started it the next day. Great read! I’m starting on my weight loss lifestyle changes right now and reading your book is great support. Thanks so much!

  19. Just to let you know I saw your book in a hotel bookshop in Dubai. Unfortunately, didnt have my camera with me…..

  20. Hello! Did you know that your book has also been released in Finland..? “Dieetti-tytรถn huimat seikkailut”

  21. Hello Shauna

I bought your book in Switzerland even on the 15 of Dezember and already read it before Christams! So we were early this time. It really has a great cover and attracs readers. Hope selling runs well, youll deserve it, it was great to read.

  22. DG goes international! All this book talk makes me want to read it all over (for the 4th time) ๐Ÿ˜€ *pokepokepokepokepoke*

  23. I am planning to buy and read the German version, although I’ve read the original one twice so far.
I’ll try to take a picture.

  24. I already saw a big pile of your book at a huge bookstore here in aachen a few days before christmas but had no camera with me. I’ll go back soon and try to snap a picture.

  25. Hi Shauna, you might also be interested to know that your fantastic book is in at least 20 public libraries in New Zealand, too! I originally borrowed your book, but enjoyed it so much, I had to buy it too.

  26. Hello Shauna,

I’m from Germany. I’m still in a Weight-Watchers-Group (sorry for my bad english). Somebody of our Group was reading your book and told about it one evening in decembre. I bought it the next day and I only need 4 Days to read.

It ist fantastic what you done in these few years. It makes hope to me that I can reach it too. My weight is still on 102 kg. It is not so high for somebody who lost as much as you do but I hat a time where I thought I cant reach 70 kg. NOW I think I can make it. THANKS Shauna. I whish you, your family a good year.

Thank You for writing your book.

  27. Hey Shauna,
I spotted your book in Norway whilst home for Chrismas holidays, but am back in the UK now. Didn’t think to take a picture, but I swear it’s sitting on the shelf on the groundfloor of a bookshop called Norli (Galleriet branch) in Bergen town:-) It made me giggle, as if I bumped into a secret friend!

I’ve been reading your blog since November 2006 and love following your journey, both diet-and otherwise. Your blog is funny, genuine and soooo inspiring! And not just when it comes to weightloss, but when it comes to taking on challenges in life in general. Anyway, I’ll stop gushing now, just wanted to de-lurk and say hello.

    Happy New Year!!!!

  28. @Natascha -Thank you for your comment! Wishing you lots of luck with your goal too ๐Ÿ™‚

@KKP – Helloooo! Nice to hear the book is out and about in Bergen… I hope to visit Norway some day. So close, yet so far away ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for delurking and happy new to you too…

  29. My book arrived Thursday, so I am now on page 70. So despite having trouble getting hold of it, there was a happy ending. I will take a photo for the gallery as soon as I get a chance. Thank you for a great read.

  30. Hey Shauna,

I found your book on Friday (9th of January) in a book store at Hamburg/Germany main station. After I missed my train I was looking for something to get me over waiting time. First I was thinking about a magazine, but then I came across your book, looked inside, saw the stunning pictures and decided to buy it. Last night (which was Saturday) I had it finished already. Had to find your weblog after that and then came to this site. Your book is absolutely amazing and inspiring. The “before” and “after” pictures are just “wow” and I absolutely love your wedding pictures. Iยดm so happy youยดre having all this success right now and I wish a lot more to go!!! Thank you for sharing your very personal story as an example to everyone who faces similar weight challenges and insecurities (also here in Germany).
    Best wishes,

  31. I looked, but couldn’t find your book. ๐Ÿ™ I always suspected that I live in a backwards corner of Germany and now here’s the proof. Maybe it’ll be here in a few weeks.

  32. Hi Shauna! Wanted to let you know that I have seen your book at Barnes and Noble in New Orleans, LA. It was right after Christmas and New Years. Your boo was set up on a special table right by the check out!
