What the heck is it?
The Great Fitness Experiment is a new book inspired by Charlotte's mega popular blog of the same name. Here's the synopsis of the book:
Body image and fitness are hot topics for both men and women. She writes candidly about her history of anorexia, orthorexia, and "general-low-self-esteem-exia," including anecdotes about the effects of the health craze on her students, friends, and gym buddies.
Why I dig it
I love Charlotte's writing, from her Huffington Post contributions to her amazing five posts a week on her own blog. Whether she's writing about fitness, topical issues or her own life, she moves from hilarious to poignant to utterly heartbreaking with great style.
Her book is fitness reference meets memoir, combining tales of her monthly fitness experiments (kettlebells, HIIT, Crossfit to name a few) with personal essays that explore her struggles with compulsive overexercising and disordered eating. The personal essays were my favourite part of the book – some were hilarious and some moved me to tears. It's about fitness with real heart and humanity behind it.
