Cycling Tips

If you’re reading this on Sunday, I’m in merry old England slowly pootling along on the Cycletta bike ride. I’m writing this on Thursday but I think we can safely insert – freakout, nausea, buttock-clenching fear – right here as per every adventure I’ve written about over the past decade.

I’ll be riding with my friend Gillian who sent me this hilarious video of cycling tips. Can’t wait to work “about as clever as giving a balloon to a hedgehog” into a conversation!

  1. You’ll be fine! Just keep those legs moving and imagine Coach Troy is there “encouraging” you. No freakouts required.

  2. I don’t think I got much sleep last night, cause I was freaking out too…
But woohoo for finishing & not falling off!

I was tempted to grab hold of one of the marshals on the motorbike at one point, as he zoomed past me!
But I remembered that it wasn’t a good idea according to Miss Hamilton.

Hope you had a good trip home

  3. I wish I could ride a bike! Always been too afraid even as a child and now at my size it seems so daunting. One of my goals in the coming year is to finally learn and make that part of my work out routine.
You have a lovely blog 🙂 thanks for sharing your story-has definitely been inspiring for me and I am so glad that I am now able to be kind to myself. I can’t believe it took me so long to realize that and to know others have gone through the same thing.
Enjoy your bike tour! safe journey!

  4. Oh Shauny, glad to hear you made it (of course you did)! And that video is hilarious. Love the man’s snippy borderline outraged voice over!!!!

  5. So happy for you!! You are such an inspiration. Can’t wait to hear all about it. xx

  6. I loved the commentry: “a lorry is capable of turning into a side street and a hearse”
