Hello! I’m Shauna Reid, a Scotland-dwelling Australian writer, author and porridge aficionado.

This blog began in Canberra in January 2001 when I weighed in at 351 pounds (almost 160 kilos). Six years later, on the other side of the planet, I’d lost exactly half my body weight.

As per with 95% of diets, after maintaining the loss for three years, I gradually regained 2/3 of the weight over the next few years.

There are a myriad of contributing factors — a combination of falling back into my old all or nothing thinking, detaching from my body and not properly dealing with the underlying emotional issues.

I now understand that my relationship with food will forever be a work in progress. I’m not sure when I will reach that goal weight again. Instead I’m focusing on finding a sustainable way of eating and moving that allows me to be as healthy as possible. I’m trying to tune in to works for me, and currently that includes including counselling, food journalling, walking, weight training, mindful eating techniques… plus the odd spreadsheet!

In January 2013 I decided to move on from this website. Dietgirl started out as a anonymous pseudonym and at the time it was a safe place for me to pour my heart out about my journey. But thirteen years on, I no longer needed my pseudonym so I returned to writing at my original online home What’s New Pussycat @ ShaunaReid.com.

The Dietgirl archives still online for anyone who’d like to have a stickybeak at twelve years of ups and downs, ins and outs and adventures.
